Application in Europe

Conditions for Swiss nationals to take up gainful employment in the member states of the European Union and EFTA countries

Thanks to the agreements adopted between Switzerland and the European Union, Swiss nationals can look for jobs in EU and EFTA countries.

If you are a Swiss national, you are entitled to spend up to six months looking for a job in these countries. As soon as you have an employment contract or a statement from an employer saying that you have been hired or if you can show that you are self-employed, you can obtain a residence permit. This permit will be issued to you for the duration of your employment contract. If you are self-employed, you do not need a residence permit if your business services last for less than 90 days but you must notify the residents' registration office in the commune where you are providing these services. If your services take more than 90 days, you will be issued with a residence permit for the duration of your provisions of services. For more information
