What is EURES?
EURES is an information exchange network to facilitate the mobility of workers within the countries of the European Union (EU) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Members of the network include public employment services, their public and private partners, and social partners at cross-border level. Switzerland has been part of the EURES network since 1 June 2002.
What are the aims of EURES?
- EURES seeks to promote the development in Europe of labour markets that are open and accessible to all for the benefit of job seekers, employees and employers
- EURES wishes to increase transnational, interregional and cross-border exchanges of job vacancies and job recruitment
- EURES aims to increase the transparency and exchange of information on the European labour markets by supplying basic information on living and working conditions and on the need for skills and the opportunities for acquiring them
What are the aims of EURES-Switzerland?
Switzerland has decided to focus on:
- further training of its EURES advisers
- training on the EURES system for all the members of staff of the regional employment centres (RAV)
- providing European job seekers who want to work in Switzerland with information, and
- consolidation of its cross-border collaboration work
EURES cross-border regions
The EURES cross-border partnerships aim to respond to the special problems posed by access to vacancies and mobility in cross-border regions. Cross-border partnerships have been set up in places where: ·
- there are a large number of cross-border workers
- it is useful and even necessary for local public employment centres and possibly social partners (trade unions and employers' associations) to form a partnership
In addition to their usual tasks of informing, advising and finding jobs, the cross-border organisations provide information on vocational training and assist cross-border workers regarding the recognition of diplomas and other issues linked to the regional labour market. There are three cross-border partnerships with Switzerland:
Bodensee,
TransTirolia and
Oberrhein. Two new regions are in the process of being created.
